Employee Appreciation

BUILDING A CULTURE OF EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION

According to David Brown founder and President of Datotel an IT services storage business, was dismayed to find that the employee of the month program wasn’t helping motivate his workers at all. To him it seemed like a great idea at the time that would make them feel appreciated and motivate them to work harder.

What is surprising is that According to a recent study that was conducted by International Association of Administration Professional, showed that Employees ranked Promotions and Bonuses as the most important to an Employee. This was not the case however with the Employees who considered a person to person than you as more important or a good job well done reported to senior management. This clearly shows that even though Bonuses are highly coveted in any workplace, still employers consider a face to face thank you as important.

Employee Appreciation is especially important in tough economic times, as this is when it’s important to give people face time and basic human appreciation on a regular basis. As Debra Carden a business psychologist puts it “A plaque may be fine for 15min, but once it goes on the wall people tend to forget it.”Brown also admit that giving out bonuses looked like the simplest way to do as it was least time consuming, but as he also found out during informal discussions, it was going to take a less rigid approach. For example he set the set aside part of his daily morning phone call with senior executives to discuss exemplary work, in addition to 15 minutes in the middle of each weekly management meeting.

Already David Brown is making Inroads trying out the new systems, for example, Stephanie, an engineer who joined Datotel three years ago, was pleasantly surprised to find a note from Brown in her mailbox this past June. In the note, handwritten on Datotel stationery, Brown noted that Lewis had been praised during several recent management meetings for working closely with a customer and thanked her for her hard work. “It made me feel important to get something so personal and unique; especially since I’m sure David has several hundred other things.

Its tough job trying to convince managers to change their ways, just ask Ken Wisnefski, founder of WebiMax, an online marketing company in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, had to have a difficult talk with a manager at his previous company, which he sold last year. Wisnefski says the manager had a habit of “throwing employees under the bus” during meetings and taking credit for their accomplishments. According to a former employee for WebiMax she had to tiptoe around the Manager who she says ” would recognize when people did something wrong, but not when they did something well”.

It takes time to sit down and write out a note, or shoe appreciation to your employees but it goes a long way, for example it may make employees take criticism better. It may just as well rub of somebody else as well a forge a very satisfied wor

Sigh!!

The rate i am getting rejections is crazy this last few mths..Makes me wonder whether i made the right decision as far as Career choice..i have not got a single bite as far as Internship opportunities:I Really really despise the Rejection letters that are so transparent that you can tell it was a cut and Paste Format.

  • After careful review of your credentials, it has been determined that we do not currently have a match for your background and experience.
  • Kelvin, well, I’m very sorry, but the position didn’t come to fruition after all
  • After careful consideration, we regret to inform you that we have determined your skills are not the right match and we will not be progressing with your candidacy for this particular position.

I wish we had feedback given to better ourselves in the future,it surprises me that Entry Level Internship opportunities require so much knowledge beforehand that you very well know was never in the curriculum…or wanting  2,3,3,4,5 years experience is crazy for Internship Requirements.

IMPACT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Information technology is the technology used to store, manipulate, distribute or create information. The type of information or data is not important to this definition. The technology is any mechanism capable of processing this data.

Without a Doubt Information Technology has an Impact on Society,From Chatting Cross continents to Streaming and Watching Videos in Real Times,Life has definitely Changed for Everyone from the little Kid watching Dora on Leap Frog and Laptops to the Farner Checking Market Prices for Prices for Produce.

In the last 10 years alone we have seen huge changes in the way people communicate using information technology , in term of electronic messaging e.g emails ,texts, chatting .Information technology has brought the world together we can share information quickly, efficiently. The world has become one Global Village.Think about the Student in USA Chatting with High School Friends in Africa who he hasn’t seen in Years or using Facebook to Keep up with Friends Globally.Farmers and fishers for example in remote communities may require all sorts of information and communication capacity – to know about weather forecasts and the market prices for their products, to be able to communicate with suppliers, This would ensure that they get the best Price and thus Economically uplift themselves.

Government has been influenced by developments in information technology has helped Governments all over the world to improve their “service” to their citizens for example Advances in Database technology for example have made sure that the governments of various countries to Analyze and monitor statistical information that they can use to combat fraud, manage the economy in a more informed way and also Project Future Growth and Plan ahead and Create Sustainable Development Projects that will Better helps its Citizens.Information Technology has also had a major impact on the defence capabilities of governments. This covers both a government’s capability to wage war and their intelligence gathering capability. Advances in weapons technology and weapons design has increased the effectiveness of various governments’ armed forces.Intelligence Gathering has Never been so Efficient with Advances Made with Information Technology for example the Recent Discovery of PRISM and the NSA use of it in the United States of America. On the Flip side,Encryption of sensitive information has enabled government’s to obtain added security. However attempting to decrypt information is also a major area of work for those employed by the government.

Commercial Business it seems Technological Advantage has the Biggest Influence on Whether A Business Bare survives or Makes a Profit. For example, computer aided design, relational database technologies, spreadsheets, and word processing software just to name But a Few.The use of I.T to observer a business’s performance can also enable the business to highlight areas where they are not making the most use of their resources. The use of information technologies can also increase the business’s income through advertising in the various available forums. Advances in information technology over the last thirty years have lead to the television for example being more widely used today than thirty years ago (e.g. the introduction of transistor based televisions reduced costs while increasing reliability).

News and Media in the 21 Century has benefited a Great Deal From advanced in Information technology.Think about how 10 years ago News disbursement was a slow and a Riot in Asia for example two Days and Months to Reach North America, atrocities took so long to Reach Most parts of the world, that by the time it was received its effect was Diminished. Now the impact of News information as seen through T.V and the internet is at all time High and coupled with The relative cheapness of being able to publish information on the Internet for example means that virtually anyone can publish information accessible anywhere in the world.

Education,is one that Must not Be Forgotten, and Perhaps here its Personal for me,i grew up with Encyclopedias as my only Means of Information and Research.Writing a paper was Such a Huge Task to undertake and could not be done the Days Before as Most Do nowadays. As a result of Information technology New Courses were Introduced thar Demanded a New Work Force and Training…Jobs Were Created!! Research has never Been better and Faster Data collection and interpretation has never Been easier.ArpaNet originally was created for the This sole Purpose, remember that ARPAnet protected the flow of information between military installations by creating a network of geographically separated computers that could exchange information.

The Bad

Although on can argue that Information technology is A Godsend For every Good there must be Bad and so Information technology has also negative Impact in Society.Negative Impacts Include

Society Disconnect or what also can be called Digital Socialization-.Why doe i need to visit my Friend when i can video chat and Talk over the phone.

Unemployment has Increased as a result of Information technology.

Children now have easy Access to Questionable Content and Pedophiles now have faster and better method to stalk Victims.

Government, misuse of Information Technology By some has been A course of Concern for many Privacy advocates and pundit alike..A perfect example is Information technology tools like big data are being used to gather information about individuals in our country for the benefit of the political parties so they can determine the best approach to get your votes. Email is being used by all political parties to ask for donations. Websites are used to display candidate views and take electronic donations to candidate election teams.PRISM is a prime example of the Recent Fallout from the USA Governments application of Information Technology.

In conclusion ,The effective implementation and use of IT are the result of a complex process that requires not only adoption of a technology but also changes in organizations and institutions. As part of this process, individuals and organizations actively adapt (and sometimes resist) the technologies. As a result, the effects of IT on society often take place more slowly than visionaries predict. Nevertheless, the effects—driven by the continual change in underlying technologies—are substantial over time.Information Technology is a Powerful Catalyst for Change in these Fast paced World for Today and the Power and responsibility Lies with Every Individual responsible for its implementation and My Hope that Information technology Does Not Destroy Us!!!!

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Series PART 02

History of Information Technology

Hmmmmm….Information Technology, where did it all Begin?

The History of Information Technology is Fascinating   can be safely Divided into a couple of Periods

    1. Pre-Mecanical
    2. Mechanical
    3. Electromechanical
    4. Electronic

These Periods are too long in their entirety to Complete in a Blog so here is a link
